Limerick, Saturday, 8th March 2025
This International Women’s Day, The Hunt Museum is proud to participate in the Art + Feminism Wikipedia campaign in collaboration with Wikimedia Community Ireland and Ardscóil Mhuiré, Corbally, Limerick. Together, we will explore new feminist perspectives on objects from the Hunt Museum’s collection that will be published on Wikipedia.
Art + Feminism is an online global movement dedicated to creating a more inclusive and diverse internet by presenting and amplifying marginalised voices in the arts and beyond.

Ardscóil Mhuiré students Róisín Antonio, Hannah Kett, Abbie O'Loughlin, Zofia Bartnik, and Orlaith Grimes explore ART + FEMINISM through the Hunt Collection.
Sophie Fitzpatrick, Project and Communications Manager, of Wikimedia Ireland explained:
“The goal of this collaboration with the Hunt Museum and Ardscóil Mhuiré TY students is to move one step closer towards closing information gaps related to gender, feminism, and the arts, while also enhancing students’ critical digital skills. Wikipedia offers a real-world setting where students can publish their research after interacting with the abundance of resources and knowledge the museum has to offer.”
Currently, only 18% of Wikipedia biographies are about women but Art + Feminism campaign activists from around the world, including artists, students and other gallery, library, archive and museums, are working to tell the stories that have been left out.
Teresa Crowley, Director and CEO of The Hunt Museum, spoke with great enthusiasm about the Art + Feminism campaign:
“It will enable us to reframe or reinterpret artworks by focusing on the subjectivity and humanity of the women in them. Crucially, it will also enable us to highlight and tell the stories of the female makers, artists, patrons and other underrepresented groups in the Collection. We look forward to collaborating with Ardscóil Mhuire TY students to gain these new insights and to publish them online on Wikipedia.”
Bríd Herbert, Principal of Ardscóil Mhuiré, spoke about the empowering potential that collaborating on the Art + Feminism campaign with have for her students:
“It presents our students with a unique opportunity to understand that the women represented in the Hunt Collection aren’t merely art- they were people, who were stereotyped and often silenced by the social and cultural structures of their times. It is an honor for our students to work with the Hunt Museum to research and publish the histories and stories of these women on Wikipedia. The campaign provides our students with a wonderful entry point into digital activism.”
A series of Wikipedia posts on Hunt Museum objects will be shared throughout the year and on International Women’s Day 2026, the museum will launch an online exhibition bringing together all new research and insights. In addition, Ardscóil Mhuiré TY students will present an exhibition of artwork inspired by and reflecting on their experiences of contributing to the Art + Feminism campaign.
