Limerick, 29 April 2025 — The Hunt Museum was filled with conversation, creativity, and connection on Thursday, 24 April as it marked the official launch of Cut From The Same Cloth, a striking new exhibition that bridges the worlds of biomedical science, personal storytelling, and textile art.
The evening began with pre-launch panel discussion titled Unveiling Stories Behind Cut From The Same Cloth, featuring artist and tapestry weaver Lorna Donlon; community partner Shabnam Ahmed; biomedical researchers Dr. Sara Dakir and Dr. Asia Drabinska; and project lead Elaine Quinn of the UCD Conway Institute. The panel shared personal insights into the year-long collaborative process, which engaged local minority communities and researchers through the Patient Voice in Health Research initiative.
Teresa Crowley, Director & CEO of the Hunt Museum, opened the launch with a warm welcome, introducing a line-up of distinguished speakers including Councillor Maria O’Donoghue, Professor Helen Roche (University College Dublin), and keynote speaker Lynn Scarff, Director of the National Museum of Ireland. Each emphasised the significance of collaborative, inclusive cultural projects that give voice to underrepresented communities and bring scientific research into more accessible, human-centred spaces.
The exhibition offers a unique opportunity to engage with both the personal and professional journeys of those who contributed, woven together through motif, colour, and craft.
Cut From The Same Cloth runs at the Hunt Museum until 29 May 2025, with free public admission.

Teresa Crowley, CEO and Director of the Hunt Museum:
“At The Hunt Museum, we are proud to showcase Cut From The Same Cloth—a project that not only celebrates the intersection of art and science but also highlights the voices of those often unheard in research. This exhibition is a powerful reminder of the importance of inclusion, and we’re thrilled to share these inspiring stories with our visitors.”
Lorna Donlon, Cut From the Same Cloth, Founder and Artist:
“Creating Cut From The Same Cloth has been a deeply meaningful process, weaving together not just fabric but the stories of individuals who are often overlooked in research. By reimagining biomedical data as art, I hope to show how science and personal experience are connected, reminding us all that every thread in our community matters.”
Celine Fitzgerald, Interim CEO of Research Ireland:
“We are very proud to support this project through the Research Ireland Discover programme. This project is a wonderful example of how the intersection of art and science can bolster inclusivity in research. Not only is the work on display at this exhibition beautiful and intricate, but it helps to amplify minority voices in such a universal and moving way.”
